Money and Energy

Everyone has some story of money magic. A time when they needed or wanted something and thought there was no way the money would be there. Somehow, suddenly it was. Sometimes it seems that money has a mysterious quality, appearing just as you need it. Other times, no matter what you do, there isn’t enough. For many people, money is a major stress, contributing to fears of survival and health problems.

Money is a good example of how energy works. It has a quality that is very concrete as it pertains to our understanding of reality. You can see it, touch it, taste it, smell it and feel it with your five senses. There are concrete things to do in order to get it – go to work, earn a paycheck, or inherit or marry it. If you save money, you can accumulate it in a bank or put it in a retirement account.

It also has other qualities that are more mercurial, difficult to understand. The more you have, the easier it is to make. Some people make money doing very little, while others work hard for little money. If people didn’t believe in money magic, they wouldn’t buy lottery tickets or use credit cards to spend more than they have. Money issues can be viewed in much the same way as I describe health issues, 20% of what you need to create money is physical, 30% is lifestyle and 50% is emotional and spiritual issues to do with money.

As with healing the body, in order to heal money, there is a certain amount of physical activity that needs to be done. The 20% of my balanced healing equation. For the body, if there is a serious problem, perhaps surgery or medicine will be required to set help it find the path of healing. With money, it may be setting up a savings account, creating an income if you don’t have one, or paying off debts that you have accumulated.

30% is about lifestyle. You need to adjust your living to make sure that you can afford the way you live. This is a point where its good to create a budget. Make sure that your income can be made to match your expenses. Pay attention to how you spend your money. Don’t go out to restaurants when you are broke. Don’t buy expensive clothes when you don’t have the money.

There were many times in my life when it seemed that there was not enough money. A few years ago, we realized that our medical practice was not paying us enough. It was a struggle just to get by. Any emergency like a flat tire or a cat getting hit by a car was a problem. We did not have available funds to handle it.

With the help of an advisor, we began to create a savings account. Even though it seemed that we didn’t have even one dollar for savings, we did as we were told. We put money into savings first and then paid ourselves a salary. The income of our office didn’t change at all. We just reorganized the way our money got spent. At first, we had no luxuries at all. Every penny was carefully accounted for. Within two years, we had a savings account and things began to get easier.

Many people think that by changing how they think about something, the thing will change. This is true. I would attribute 50% of money magic to the emotional and spiritual aspects. All the emotions about whether or not you deserve to have a certain amount of money, or whether you are deprived , or who gave you what, will affect your ability to draw money to your life. How you look at things will influence how much you make.

While just thinking about something is not enough to change it, it’s important to make sure that how you think supports change. There are a couple of great books about money that I recommend. One is called, Your Money or Your Life, by Joe Domingues and Vikki Robin, and the other is 9 steps to Financial Success by David Bach. They can help you take concrete steps to change your patterns and help you think differently.
